Ive been opposed to raising taxes for many years, but Ive come up with 2 taxes I would supports, both having to do with overtime wages. In an effort to combat unemployment, I would support increasing employer AND employee taxes on any overtime. If it would cost more for a business to offer overtime than to offer more people employment, unemployment would go down. Increasing the tax rate on overtime wages would lessen the incentive of a person to work themself to death, and give them more time to invest in family & community. I would also consider trimming the average workweek down 4~5 hours to add further opportunity for the unemployed.
