Ive been reluctant to post this for a while now because I hate to come off as being preachy but, I think Its just good stuff to know. The following is a list of facts regarding 18 wheelers. It goes without saying, that there will always be the occasional trucker who does not take his job seriously and gives us all a bad name...those people do not have a home in this industry for long and the majority of drivers out here are quite professional. 1.) Most trucks have their speeds governed. My truck for example can only reach 65 mph unless I am loaded heavy and on a steep downward grade. Others are governed at 62 and sometimes slower. 2.) You may have seen the stickers some trucks have on the rear of their trailers < passing side/ Suicide > We have very limited visibility on our right. Almost the whole length of the trailer and 3 lanes over is blind. Pass on the left at all times. If you cant see a drivers face in his mirror, you are in a blind spot. 3.) It takes the length of a football field for a truck to come to a stop. For the love of all that is good in this world, do not cut us off. If we hit you, they will be soaking what is left of you up with a sponge. 4.) OUR TURN SIGNAL IS NOT AN INVITATION TO PASS US!! Chances are we only need to get over to get around a emergency vehicle/ police officer and will get back in the right lane ASAP. Its illegal for us not to move out of the way. If a driver hangs out in the fast lane, dont worry...we dont like that guy either. Any driver will tell you that any bad day will be turned around by that one cool motorist who flashed his headlights and let you over when you needed to merge. Its the little things. Over all, just try and be patient and think about where you are and what you are doing around us. We are looking out for you too! We are working really hard and sacraficing a lot to move all the stuff we all buy around the country. Please be kind.
