Ive been silent on social media in regards to #Ferguson for the last week, because frankly - I was too angry and sad, too disappointed and bitter, too embarrassed and confused. Instead of a long rant that would breed mostly anger fueled debate (and support), I figured I would do my best to put my thoughts into a poem. Please read, reflect and engage. poem of americas this and that (dedicated to Michael Brown) this young man should still be breathing, his youths mistakes turned to new points of first year collegiate energy. this young man should not be the face everyone else is seeing, talking, and misreading. this is not a story of right or wrong - it is a song of a story gone on far too long. its a trial without facts, backed and stacked, and shellacked with the tears lyrics, art and other artifacts of a people loved so unfair by folk with spineless backs. its a tragedy of a country so proud and so right. its the replay of Hurricane with new names but the story remains. GO! stand in the most important of streets! GO! let your pain and your anger be heard and be seen! YES! stand with open hands we must put together a grand and well-planned poem for all the bland folk of this great land. this is no longer the single story of the young man Michael Brown (or Tamir Rice) (or Trayvon Martin) (or insert name here), it is the age old tale of a land where racism still prevails and only turns heads with the saddest and most unjust of tales. please read, pass write and share. please sing, dance whale and be free. this is the land of red, white and blue where equality without racism must soon one day be true. this story is not done, its turning point has hopefully, just begun. but first let us not forget this young man who no longer gets to walk with us on this beautiful land. his life matters all the same, even with the injustice done to his name. #RIPmichaelbrown #RIPtamirrice #RIPtrayvonmartin #blacklivesmatter Black Lives Matter
