Ive been thinking that writing has a tough feature that makes it unlike almost any other skill. Its hard to practice, because ones mistakes are so often not obvious. If I screw up on guitar scales or strike out in the batting cage, I know it right away. Writers, (especially but not only amateur writers) often dont recognize when/how their writing is not up to par, which makes practice MUCH harder. Quick, detailed, personal feedback from an excellent writing teacher would seem to be the only sure cure. And as our courses are piled up and overloaded, it becomes harder and harder for us to provide it.
