“Ive been working on the railroad!” Once the track was open for the 2014 season, there was more work to do! They make it look easy! Our Leadville Colorado & Southern RailroadTrack Crew is the best! It takes a lot of hard work to keep the train running safely along the rails. At 10, 200 feet we face a lot of challenges from snow, to trees, to normal wear and tear. In addition, this summer we did some upgrades and improvements. Engineer Derek Olsen explains: “We’ve rebuilt the track crossing on the west side rail from 12th Street to 8th Street. The purpose was to smooth out the crossings for the town of Leadville. In the process of doing that weve also upped the poundage that the rail lines can take, looking toward future growth for the train.”
