Ive been writing this thing for a student political publication; they like it thus far, and a guy who puts on climate events in the Honors College at Pitt really likes it. Hoping youll give me feedback before its published. Short version: people dont trust environmentalists and idealists, and environmentalists arent sympathetic to that mistrust and apathy, which widens the gulf. This is the biggest barrier to renewables and efficiency I see--apathy, mistrust, a lack of sympathy, a belief (sometimes well-reasoned, even) that the economy is out of our hands and must continue to be destructive. Tesla Motors and co. break down that wall, proving electric cars and idealism can make billions of dollars--through the capitalistic tools Americans are familiar and comfortable with. Its an easily communicable and compact story that can be literally driven to any community, and deals with nearly every criticism of idealism I can think of; and can, I think restore the credibility that progressives have so lacked. The story of Larimer does the same at the non-industrial scale, and is also very important, because of that. Anyway, commentary/debate welcome and hoped for. https://docs.google/document/d/1MgAu5mLGZCPZp-tjTvEFwOHErHJdmtiNqZFHJEpXB_k/edit?usp=sharing
