Ive come to identify myself with Ignosticism (note: Im not misspelling Agnosticism) as a theological standpoint. I wonder how well this squares with Stoic cosmology. Moreover, I wonder, what is the proper Stoic response in the absence of knowledge? When there is an unknown - say, the definition of god, and if any and every definition provided for god is unknown to exist or not, how would a Stoic approach that? Stoicism, from my understanding, relies heavily on the idea of true knowledge, or wisdom as it relates to reality, so where do beliefs about currently unknowable concepts, such as god, fall within the Stoic worldview? I know that in Stoicism, the universe is often equated with god, but the definition of god in that sense is seemingly only related to the ordered nature of the universe. One could reasonably state that the universe is ordered, but to call that order divine, seems more metaphorical than literal - or if meant literally, only a personal opinion. Anyone have any thoughts on this?
