Ive come to realize that in the world of equality movements, such as gay pride, feminism, civil rights, etc., it really has become basically a social stigma to be proud of something that was once the privileged one. Phrases such as check your privilege that the masses of Tumblr use to make themselves feel pitied amongst themselves shows that anyone who is proud of just being their own individual is frowned upon. In a society where were pushing for things that are against the archaic norm a century ago to embrace individuality, those that embrace the old guard because they want to or have no choice to--being a straight, white, religious male is almost a scorn in our society--are mercilessly ridiculed to the point of almost persecution.
