Ive conceived a desire to go on a road trip. Which is unusual for me, usually I go someplace because I have some destination, a conference or event to go to, someone to visit. This is more a feeling of restlessness, of, hey, why dont I go somewhere, get in motion. And I have no real goal or destination. Perhaps Ill visit some friends along the way who would like to be visited, maybe Ill visit the Seattle / Vancouver area that Ive never visited before. Or maybe something else. So what would I do if I were going on a road trip? Id go get my car serviced before I went. Id clean and sort and organize so that I wasnt leaving a mess behind when I went. There are a few odds and ends Id buy for a trip. And what have I been doing? I made an appointment to get my car serviced. Ive been sorting and organizing (which is my least favorite chore ever). Ive ordered the couple of things Id want from Amazon. I signed up on couchsurfing. Today I got a hair cut. Oh look, apparently Im in motion. :) There was no big moment of decision. No point where I said, OK! Im going on a road trip! All these things Im doing, I could do anyway. I could go get my car serviced because its due, even if I wasnt leaving. I could sort and organize and clean so that I dont have messy piles of stuff everywhere. I just happen to be doing these things now, doing them first. And in a few days, in a week or so, there will be nothing left to do. All prerequisites, all impediments, all tasks that would be needed will be done. And then I could drive off, with no more scheduling than if I were going to the supermarket.
