Ive decided I like this 11-month-old baby quite a lot. I like taking her to restaurants and letting her try all the food. I like watching her stand up and walk, stand up and walk, stand up and walk, and the way she starts running when she gets close to one of us, tripping and falling into our arms, perfectly assured of her safety (kiddo, Mama is clumsy--look out). I like her furrowed brow of concentration. I like her 9-toothed smile and the way her eyes crinkle in the baby fat of her face when the happiness is particularly huge. I like her vigorous bouncing. I even like her protests, the mini-tantrums of sit and flail that overcome her when shes tired. And I like language acquisition. I like the way she says Mama and Daddy, of course, but also the sounds she yells or whispers that arent quite words yet. I like listening to her move a syllable around in her mouth. I like when she talks to herself in a language only she can understand. I like how she tries something new out every week. This week, its a thoot thoot sound with her tongue stuck between her teeth. She also knows the meaning of a bunch of words: bounce, wave, clap, kick, nurse, book, and our favorite, share. Benna turns one two weeks from tomorrow. Yeah, I know.
