Ive gotten messages from supporters telling me theyre sorry that I came so close, yet came up short. There are messages from others in the political community that know a vote count this close with nearly 30K - 50K votes left to count is too close to call. I will continue to watch closely as the vote count becomes official. As that happens, Ive already started to think about the work ahead. We built a position in these city to do some real advocacy of behalf of communities that deeply rely on our schools to put their young people in a better position to succeed. As a graduate of this district, its critical that I continue to help drive that work and support the efforts of established organizations where ever I can be helpful. I love this work and I think we showed these past 11 months that some everyday locals can get involved in what seems to be a daunting and sometimes ugly political process in a significant way to further the cause of social justice. Weve tapped into something special in this city, its authentic, deeply passionate and will continue to expand if we remain diligent and focused at the task ahead. Men and women win and lose elections, most of the winners and losers throughout history youve never heard of. There is a cause that is greater than any election outcome or the success and failure of individuals. I woke up this morning with that cause on my mind. I undertake that cause with humility, love and an understanding that I have a role to play in a much greater effort. Its clear that my role in that effort is to find a way to be helpful and serve the public. It was my great honor to compete against the candidates in this race; it was an even greater honor to earn your votes, contributions, endorsements, volunteer hours, prayers and words of encouragement. None of that is lost on me and I hope tireless work and sacrifices I endured to win is a reflection of how deeply I appreciated your trust and investment in my candidacy. I love you all deeply and Im incredibly grateful for your love and support. #SC4SB: The journey continues!
