Ive had a copy of this poem ever since I was a young boy. I dont know how Ive managed to hold on to it and not lose it after all these years, though. Growing up, I never knew who the author of this poem was (at one point in time I actually thought that my mother might have written it lol, but my mother wasnt smart enough to come up with something like this). Until I googled it tonight. Turns out that this poem was written by a Christian, and many Christian websites use this poem as inspiration to help keep their faith strong and keep walking on the path of God. as one Christian website put it. Personally, I just dont see it. Theres no references to god, the bible, or anything religious in this poem. To me, I just see this as good, secular advice. Just because a Christian wrote it doesnt mean anything. Anyways, I hope you all take something away from it; I know I have over the years. To Let Go Takes Love To let go does not mean to stop caring, it means I cant do it for someone else. To let go is not to cut myself off, its the realization I cant control another. To let go is not to enable, but allow learning from natural consequences. To let go is to admit powerlessness, which means the outcome is not in my hands. To let go is not to try to change or blame another, its to make the most of myself. To let go is not to care for, but to care about. To let go is not to fix, but to be supportive. To let go is not to judge, but to allow another to be a human being. To let go is not to be in the middle arranging all the outcomes, but to allow others to affect their own destinies. To let go is not to be protective, its to permit another to face reality. To let go is not to deny, but to accept. To let go is not to nag, scold or argue, but instead to search out my own shortcomings and correct them. To let go is not to adjust everything to my desires, but to take each day as it comes and cherish myself in it. To let go is not to criticize or regulate anybody, but to try to become what I dream I can be. To let go is not to regret the past, but to grow and live for the future. To let go is to fear less and love more. Remember: The time to love is short... --By Robert Paul Gilles Jr. This poem is part of a collection, copyrighted as “Thoughts of the Dreampoet – Volume 1″
