Ive just read a pretty amazing article in todays Observer supplement. Its by a guy called Jonathan Asser who has been doing some brilliant work with some very violent people in the prison system. Its yet another example of one person who has worked through a problem helping others. He uses a technique, he has come up with himself, called Shame/Violence Intervention (SVI) and has had some remarkable success with people often deemed beyond help. His technique uses his own internal processes around shame as a psychotherapeutic guide to teach others to do the same. Unfortunately because it lies a bit outside the expert CBT prescriptive offender management programmes he is having lots of difficulties gaining support for it. For me it fits very well with disistance theory of the road from crime and fifth wave public health.
