Ive just read sis Simphiwe Danas introduction to my book and found - TopicsExpress

Ive just read sis Simphiwe Danas introduction to my book and found myself crying uncontrollably. I still cant stop this relentless flow of tears. This woman and I come from very very far. I remember our very public battle a few years ago, how very destructive a place we were in. I remember waking up one morning and finding journalists camping outside my gate, wanting a sound bite, something to sensationalise. Its strange when I think about it, because even at the height of our rage, sis Simphiwe and I always protected each other. We fought each other hard, but we loved each other even harder. We were two Black women fighting a battle that didnt belong to us. Two ordinary people. That very dark phase took away so much from many of us. We lost so much in so many ways. But we gained something too: perspective. We realised what matters most. It was in the tatters of a dream betrayed that our convictions were strengthened. And 4 years later, we are able to laugh about that chapter, and to stand by each other in defence of a dream that our lives are dedicated to: the emancipation of a Black child. This is such a deep introduction, such a powerful reflection by a woman who is more than just my older sister, a woman who is my comrade, my mentor, my rock. Steve Biko is smiling in his grave.
