Ive just serviced and replaced the washers, grommits, seals and lubrication on my mountain bikes rear suspension. Ive never done it before. It took me about 35 mins. I reckon 20 of those (at least) were me thinking surely, it cant be this simple? and quadrouple checking for some seals to change - that had replacements in the bag - but actually arent part of the model on my bike! This has cost me £16 and 35 minutes of my life. If Id had this done by any of the 3 cycle shops I enquired about it at, it would have taken over a week and cost between £90 and £95, as its a tricky procedure that we dont carry out in-house. If theres no one capable of doing such a simple task at any of these serious bike shops (i.e. not Halfords and used by racing cyclists) I doubt Ill ever trust them with undertaking any other maintenance!
