Ive known James Early so long that hes earned numerous nicknames in the time that weve been friends. Jimmy, squirrel, James Taylors illegitimate son, Earl, Nails etc. He was there for me when I was a young smart mouth kid and hes been there for me while Ive been a grown man. Weve been through a lot of big life moments together. Weve been together for funerals, weddings, road trips, child births and even a trip to jail together once. We also were once with some other friends as we were detained at the Canadian border. I probably wouldnt be the man I am today without his friendship. I definitely wouldnt have all of the funny stories about growing up without him around. I dont have many memories of my formative years when he wasnt there. We dont see each other as often as we used to. But I still have nothing but love for the guy. When we do see each other its like no time has passed at all. We just pick right back up. Sometimes with a wise crack but were men, that is how we interact. I cant imagine a day where its become one of those relationships where we have the fake conversation, like where you working at? Or what have you been into?. I mentioned the other day about the small group of guys that I call bro, well Earl was amongst the first few that earned that distinction. To some people that may not mean much. But to me thats the definition of a brother. Not friends, not acquaintances but family. Earl is no doubt, a part of my family. Out of all of the nicknames that hes earned over the years that i mentioned earlier, my favorite one is just simply, bro. Happy birthday, Jimmy.
