Ive listened to this song at least 100 times this last week. This is an amazing song just by itself. The 3 drummers and the bassist (thats all there is in this song) are all legends of Afro Cuban musical history. The reason Im pointing the song out (besides the pure musical joy) is that it is a great example of the power of the clave. The clave isnt even explicitly played by an of the musicians, although if you hunt for it then the bass line is the easiest place to find it. Nonetheless it drives the entire song and is playing inside the head of each musician, enable this beautiful polyrhythmic interplay. The clave is simply one of the greatest cultural artifacts of Africa.
