Ive read many comments on here about #robinwilliams and #suicide. Most were sympathetic but others were downright hateful and condemning. Suicide takes far too many people every year for many different reasons. Most boil down to depression and/or addiction. Both are documented mental illnesses. Both can be treated and overcome but, both need help, guidance and support to be successful. Some of you might say its, survival of the fittest or natural selection, or he/she was weak, etc. I say youre wrong! It takes strength and courage and determination to take a life (in most cases), even more if that life is your own. Think about it, the human body/brain DOES NOT WANT TO DIE! It wants to live. The brain will take over and fight to live. In order to take your own life, you have to overcome your bodys natural defence mechanism. I dont want to make it sound glamorous or righteous or exciting because its not. IT IS DEVASTATING!! It changes lives forever! It breaks hearts!! IT IS NOT THE ANSWER!! Suicide is not the easy way out. Its also not the first choice someone makes when things go wrong but it is too often the last choice someone makes. Instead of being judgemental and condemning of Robin Williams, why not take a little time and educate yourself about suicide, depression and addiction. You just might begin to look at people differently and maybe even take the time to listen to the reply when you say, hello, how are you? I promise you this without any reservation, someone who is a family member and/or friend of Robin Williams is beating themself up and screaming Why didnt I see this coming? What could I have done differently? WHY DID YOU LEAVE US? And that person will ask those questions for the rest of their life!! I know this for a fact. I ask myself those questions daily since my nephew, Chase Noah, left us on May 12, 2012. I pray that God will bring peace to the hearts of Robins family and friends as they deal with this terrible loss.
