Ive read some of this book, yet Im not carrying the book with me. Its an interesting book to me because of Pirsigs life story -- and part of the basis of the subject matter: that being represented by the title -- engine and machine work and these other ideas that Pirsig has about traveling through the world. I did read some of the book. If Im remembering correctly -- Pirsig has trouble with his valves and tappets that he cant repair and takes the motorcycle in to a mechanics shop to have it repaired -- and the mechanic messes it up -- and Pirsig writes about this interaction between himself and the mechanic. Its the ideas in the writing about doing mechanical work on the motorcycle out on the road etc. . . . . . . starting with this same idea -- traveling and/or doing auto or motorcycle repair -- its very interesting to read about -- yet I think there could be a more interesting book to read with a more developed quality to the writing. Nonetheless Pirsigs life is very interesting and the writing in the book as writing has a nice quality to it -- and I might bet more of this book if continued to read it and think about it. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_M._Pirsig
