Ive recently been challenged by two friends and colleagues (heres looking at you Karishma Kamath and Stephanie Lynch!) to do two separate, but similar challenges in which I reflect on things which I am grateful for and then ask three friends to do the same for 7 days in a row. Sometimes the things we are the most grateful for are the things that come in our greatest time of need. Im beyond thankful for supportive friends, family, and colleagues who helped carry Nate and I through when Henry passed away suddenly in May 2013 from canine cancer. Of these folks, I have a special appreciation for Anne Cattarello who leads the pet loss support group at the Boulder Humane Society each month. Anne is a wonderful person who truly understands the place the passing of a furry family member leaves in our lives and hearts. I thank Anne each time I see her but I also made a point to give her some flowers during the last time we saw each other to show my appreciation and to represent the cycle of renewal taking place (during the spring time but also in my own healing one year later.) Im grateful for the opportunity to continue working at a world-class institution nestled amongst the mountains and the clouds. Wow what a blessing it is to work and live in such a beautiful place. Im further grateful to be able to continue the relationships Ive started at CU Boulder from my time in Residence Life and to now take on new risks and challenges in my current role with Off-Campus Housing & Neighborhood Relations. CU has afforded me many opportunities and experiences and I hope to continue to be able to help impact positive change in whatever ways I am able to do so. Id also be remissed to not recognize my awesome supervisors at CU Boulder including such greats as Maria Hoffman Kim Foster Vanessa Brady Dunn and most recently Susan Stafford. Finally (for today at least) Im grateful for loving parents (Jerry Moore and #notonfacebook Joyce Moore) who have always been invested in my success. Whether it was helping get me to Costa Rica for a once-in-a-lifetime study abroad experience, empowering me to be the best me I can be by role modeling honesty, dedication, and personable connections (amongst many other values) to an impeccable sense of humor and never underestimating the power of laughter they have always loved and lead unconditionally. Love you both so much! So that is day 1 of my challenge. Will you accept the challenge Patrick Dugan Kevin Cleary Jamie K. Suttle?
