Ive returned a wee bit early from my walking trip around Skye - stunning scenery, mostly beautiful weather, except on Wednesday afternoon when a hurricane struck and I was 1,000 feet up in the Cuillins. I dont know how I got the tent up but it saved my life, but the only place to pitch it was on a steep stream bed. The wind was so strong it blew the rain straight through the tent. I spent 18 hours lying in the equivalent of a childs paddling pool full of cold water, bad hypothermia and hands like white prunes. I would have phoned the emergency service, except the phone was wet, and I doubt if there would be a signal. Possibly the worst experience of my life. Next morning it eased a bit and I walked away from the tent, the rucksack, sleeping bag, and most of my clothes.
