Ive seen a concerning trend in the fitness industry which I believe is sending the wrong message. The idea that more is better and if you dont train hard, go home. Is there a time and place for training hard, absolutely! But I believe there is an over emphasize from trainers, the media and shows on tv (you know the one!). This mentality can work for short periods before a rest must be taken, but Im concerned many are guilt tripped into thinking they should be doing more more more. The fact is, adopting this mentality for extended periods of time will drain you physically and emotionally leaving you with less results and higher likelihood of injury. Add this to the high stress lifestyles of the average person and its only a matter of time before something breaks down , either a persons willpower or a bodily system. Either way, you will quit or consistently struggle on regardless. And who wants that? The take home- There is a time for training hard and pushing yourself and a time for rest and relaxation. Without a healthy amount of each, your set up to fail eventually. Either you understand this now or your body will demand you understand it later through breakdown. Dont forget to take it easy on yourself as part of your training. As ever, your body knows what it needs, listen to it!
