Ive seen a lot of people sharing this link lately. I would like to point out that the original article is from 2008 (although it does say it was updated in April of this year, it doesnt say what was updated). The article does not say where they got any of their data from. I cant find the $47,000 figure anywhere. Looking at the bureau of labor and statistics the mean salary for RNs in the state of Iowa was about $52,000 in 2011 (the last year that they have data for). Also, from the data that I can find the two lowest states for nursing pay appear to be Arkansas and Mississippi with both paying less that $17 an hour on average. The coasts seem to be the highest paying places for nurses, with California being number 1. However you also have to look at the cost of living. It costs a hell of a lot more to live on either of the coasts than it does to live in little old Iowa. If we are going to take ourselves seriously as professionals we should be able to evaluate the data and see whether it is accurate or not. (Also, not sure why they have a picture of Oprah in the article preview, creepy) kcrg/news/local/18704549.html
