Yes, the way its asked can sometimes be offensive and thats a problem. But there are polite and rude ways to ask just about anything. Its all contextual. If youre genuinely curious about where someones from, I dont think it hurts to ask, just dont be a jerk about it. Unless youre a Native American, everyone in the US is from somewhere else. Also, I find it annoying that the guy who made this video also makes a series of videos where his schtick is that hes a white guy born in Japan so he has a thick Japanese accent (so exotic!).
