Ive started several posts concerning the killing of Michael Brown, but have deleted them all. They all just seemed short-sighted. For the last year or so, when these type of incidents arise, I have begun to say to myself 2043. I say 2043 because that is the year when Caucasian Americans are projected to become a minority in the United States. Thats only 29 years away. Thats not very long. And that concerns me. Do the math, those twenty and thirty something year old minorities who are protesting in Ferguson are the folks who will likely be in positions of power in 29 years. My concern is I dont know whether they will rule with a disregard for respect toward the new Caucasian minority or if they will remember what it is like to be discounted and disrespected and refuse to treat others as they were treated. (St. Peter listed respect for others (godliness) as an attribute that if we are not able to possess it, then we cannot see far off and have forgotten that we have been purged from our old sins.) An act of disrespect is as violent as any gunshot. It just has a better silencer and kills more slowly. So lets make sure that this incident isnt reduced to simply another legal struggle to prop up an institution of disrespect. Why? Because the demise of our country may be happening right before our eyes and it will not be the fault of those 20 and 30 something year olds crying out for respect and fair treatment. The law is teaching them how to rule. Lets respect each other on purpose.
