Ive taken the liberty of transcribing for those who cant/wont hear it. We also know that the one part of the world where, for a long time, Jews lived in peace with their neighbors was the Arab world, especially after the Crusades - even before, but certainly after the Crusades, and in Islamic Spain, for several hundred years. Its not that relations were perfect, but serious Jewish historians will tell you, that during this period, there were very few attacks. And for a long period, harmony, in which Jews served in every single office in the State, under the Muslim rulers. When the Catholic Church expelled - after the [inaudible] conquest, Jews and Muslims from Spain, where did most of the Jews go? They went either to the Maghreb (to Algeria, to Tunisia, to Morocco) or they went to Istanbul, where the Ottoman Empire - a Muslim empire - gave them refuge. Large numbers of skilled Jews: physicians, astronomers - who had made a big part of islamic Spain - were given refuge in the Ottoman lands. And among the Ottoman lands was, of course, the city of Jerusalem. So, ironically enough, given what the situation is today, it was the refuge provided by the Ottomans that got many many Jewish communities back to that world. There were some older communities who, of course, never left. The Iraqi Jewish community, one of the oldest, the most cultured, living in peace and harmony. So this idea that somehow there has been a rivalry between the Jews and Muslims, is nonsense. And all this talk of a Judeo-Christian civilization which became very popular over the last 60 years is basically bullshit. Where was this civilization when the Jews were being massacred? In Europe?! Where was this civilization? Why didnt a single allied country decide to bomb the concentration camps? They knew it was happening. Why didnt they do it? Because it wasnt a priority. They were asked - this is whats going on - and the British army commanders said we cant spare the planes we have to win the war against Hitler. So the notion that the second World War was a war fought to free the Jews - which Tony Blair in his ignorance once said - is complete nonsense. It became a Judeo-Christian civilization only after 1948. That is when this phrase began to be used. And it began to be accelerated after the 1967 war, in which Arab nationalism suffered a huge defeat from which it didnt recover.
