Ive taken to drinking my coffee out by the cement pond these days. Its amazing to see Mama duck and the babies swimming and learning. I went and bought duck chow on a friends recommendation that the poultry starter food was not good for them. Apparently it is so packed with nutrients that it can overwhelm ducklings bodies. Ive also checked with resources and it is perfectly legal and nature for the ducks to stay the month that they need to build strength for their flight onward to the wild. Im still reading and learning, but they are safe, now, today. This morning I sat and chatted with them and suddenly a loud bark came from the sky. At first I thought it was a hawk, but when I looked up it was Papa duck. Now for the Father to return is a bit rare. This Mama and Papa must have a special connection. So in dove the Papa duck as he checked out his babies. Mama had been brooding them but out they came to be inspected. He was all eyes on them until I caught his attention. A loud quack conversation erupted between Mama and Papa and somehow she must have assured him that all was cool. So over to me he swam and we chatted, He barked out some loud quacks and I spoke calmly, he calmed down, did some nodding and then was very still as he stared at me. I finally said, your welcome. He stayed a little longer, then flew away. The world is full of magic.
