Ive told many of you this story at house shows and in person, and the EP below needs a little bit of that context so that you can really understand how important the experience of recording these 7 songs was. Christina and I lived 3 houses down from a place called the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco. We had a million memories tied up in that special place. First kisses, conversations, lunch on the grass, late night excursions to climb to the top, the list goes on. While Aaron, Ben, and I were at Prairie Sun to record Trails & Traces last year we asked if we could do a few songs in The Waits Room. Its the room where Tom Waits recorded 4 grammy winning records including Bone Machine, Mule Variations, and Alice. Its nothing but an un-isolated storage room paneled with red wood, but the sound of the rooms reverb is extremely unique and distinct. As I pulled back the sliding door on this historic recording space, I saw something that almost brought me to tears and certainly confirmed the importance of the treasure that was getting to make these songs with your help for Christina: There was an enormous photograph of the Palace of Fine Arts perched on top of the old pump organ in the room. My friends the Hornthals said this was Bahshert which means meant to be. At the end of our sessions for Trails & Traces, we set up some microphones in the Waits Room and recorded 7 of the songs that were on the record. 7 songs that I felt rang truer in that special place with the memories of The Palace of Fine Arts perched on the organ looking down and giving us a blessing for this project. Thank you for making that possible. It was a moment beyond words for me. I hope you can hear that on the Traces EP at the link below. https://jacobfurr.bandcamp/album/traces-live-from-the-waits-room
