Ive told stories about my parents. About their lives and what they went through....You already know, if you read my posts, that I have two brothers who I have never met. Bruce and Jeff died at the ages of 1 and 2. To me, they were pictures on our end table, and places to visit. I was a kid. I didnt understand what a loss my parents had to endure. As I got older, and especially after having my own children, I figured it out. I also realized that my parents, especially my mom (dad just worked his arse off to make the money) worked like crazy to make sure Bryan and I had the bestest.childhood.ever!!! My mom was the closest thing to June Cleaver in the flesh. Dinner was always yummy and was served with salad, a starch, a vegetable, and of course, meat. She taught me how to put my things away. She made sure I had a new outfit for every occasion. She was with me in the delivery room the day Matt was born. She knew how hurt I was about having to do it alone. She was the one I called when I was newly married about making fried chicken. I was on the phone with her when I made my first turkey. She still doesnt understand the Disney thing, nor does she understand that it is her fault for taking me to every Disney movie as it came to the theatre. Our TV was always tuned to The Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights. And the animals, oh we owned them all....lizards, birds, fish, dogs, and the ones we saved--ducks, chickens, squirrels, rabbits. My mom turns 80 this year. Shes slowed down a lot. Her knee replacement surgery was not completely successful. She doesnt leave the house unless it is necessary. My mom has taught me so much....about Jesus, about how to mother, about sacrificing for a family, how to stretch a buck. Shes taught me courage. When Matt was diagnosed, I thought if my mom could lose two babies, surely I can raise one with a handicap. She was the one who told me not to believe what the experts tell me. Those of you who know Matt, know just how much he has defied the odds. My mother is my mom in every sense of the word. She chose me. I will never be able to thank you enough for everything. Happy Mothers Day!!!!
