Ive totally lost count but think this is the final post of this - Maureen Nathan has nominated me to post 3 works from my own projects each day for five days and to nominate another artist each day to do the same. I am going to post drawings from my Swimmers series, which is ongoing, and which recently started up again as the swim-meet season has commenced. I do these drawings during the meets; they are somewhat unique in my body of work - something different seems to come out when I observe these young, serious yet playful kids hard at competition. In these three that Ive chosen for today, there is an element of play that I both notice and work with in my drawing, leading to what I call aesthetic correctness as opposed to anatomical correctness. This is an important concept for me, and one which I have developed more thoroughly in this series. (though perhaps its just the chlorine fumes effecting me....) They are: Push-off 3, Sometimes The Water Feels So Heavy, and Warm-up 3, all ballpoint. Today Im wondering if John Murray would like to join in the fray! His work is quietly adventurous, solidly sensitive, honest and beautiful. Id love to see more.
