Ive wanted to post this for a while because of some situations Phil and I witnessed. Some recent events have prompted me to do so. You may not agree and Im ok with that. A good coach (Im talking middle/high school) that wins games (takes a team to the playoffs or even State Finals level) but treats kids like a TOTAL jerk is not who you want coaching your kids. Sports are about dedication to a goal, perseverance, learning to deal with conflict, competition, winning well and LOSING with dignity. If the coach is screaming obscenities at the players, calling them horrible names, belittling, intimidating them (publicly or privately), getting in fights with other coaches...then hes NOT A GOOD COACH (or person in my opinion). Period. It takes an Act of Congress to fire coaches like this from schools despite complaints from parents and the community. What is wrong with our society that winning became the goal of everything? (I wont even comment on all you crazy parents doing the same thing).
