Ive won a bunch of elections and lost one. When you win by 80% or more, it says people want you to firmly go in the direction you said. Thats a mandate. But when you get less than 50% of the vote and win, if youre going to be a servant of the people, you realize that you have not been given a mandate. Youve been given a chance, and you proceed with a strong sense of humility and respect for the views of others. You try to find consensus. Discuss.
