I’m Lisa Barnes and I am running for Alexander County - TopicsExpress

I’m Lisa Barnes and I am running for Alexander County Commissioner in the upcoming election, next year. Though some of you may know me already, I wanted to take a few moments to tell you why I believe that I am a good candidate for this position. I am a hometown girl, born and raised in Alexander County. Unlike some who have moved away for better opportunities, I have remained in this county and have been in business for myself here in Alexander County for the past 22 yrs. For the simple fact, I love where I live and this is truly home to me. It is because of this investment that I believe I have the true best interests of the citizens of Alexander County in mind when I consider the changes that need to be made for this county. As a fellow citizen, I feel that our tax dollars are being spent selfishly and on some “pet projects” that appeal to the current board of commissioners rather than what is in the best interests of the citizens of Alexander County as a whole. This has to stop! Our local tax base cannot support such unwise spending as we have seen in the past because the state and national economy can’t support our county in times of need anymore! Alexander County tax payers deserve better than what they have been getting. I do believe that some spending and changes need to be made within Alexander County, particularly with respect to the funding that the school system and emergency services currently receives. These are two vital components of our local government, and if we don’t support them they can fail us! I am tired of hearing about the need for additional funding going to these entities and then seeing those funds diverted to other less pressing pet projects that the current commission board feels compelled to fund in order to appease their special interests. I am a simple person who still believes in the philosophy of doing what is right regardless of the potential political backlash, and I promise you that if elected as county commissioner, I will strive to make the decisions that I feel are in the best interests of the citizens as a whole. I have decided to join forces in my race for county commissioner with Marty Loudermilt and Joel Harbinson. I admire the track records of both these men and I believe in what they are standing for on their political platforms. We share a common interest in making this county better through smart spending and listening to input from the citizens of Alexander County. Marty Loudermilt is also a lifelong citizen of Alexander County, and has 23 yrs of successfully serving the citizens, from being on the Alexander County School Board, Sergeant with the Alexander County Sheriff’s Office as well as Dare Officer, and has a proven track record and experience in that capacity. Joel Harbinson has prior experience as a county commissioner and has presented his 8-Point Plan for Alexander County, which lays out the strategic changes he feels needs to be made because they are in the best interests of the citizens of Alexander County. Joel Harbinson takes pride in Alexander County, and has made great decisions in making our County a better place when he served as Commissioner the first time. "Joel Harbinson served on the last commissioner board that actually lowered your property taxes."I believe in these two men and am proud to stand alongside them as a candidate for county commissioner. If you are tired of the way things are, and feel like I do, that your current commissioners are turning a deaf ear and a blind eye to the problems in this county, then join Joel Harbinson, Marty Loudermilt and myself in the next election as we work hard to take back Alexander County for the citizens. ---Posted by Lisa Barnes on July 3 (Shared by ACDP)
