I’m moving and currently between two houses – living in both - TopicsExpress

I’m moving and currently between two houses – living in both during the transition process. It’s an odd experience to say the least. I’m stretched and worn as I try to keep one place perfect in order to sell it while living out of boxes and chaos in the other as we move. In one, there is absolutely no room for grace. It has to be immaculate at all times – ready for potential buyers to inspect it with harsh scrutiny and criticism. In a sense, I’m being strictly graded on the home I’ve poured my heart into over the last eleven years and there is a constant tension over whether or not it will measure up to high expectations. But, the new house is showered with grace. For the last week and a half, we have been blessed with friends and family who have offered to come and help us. Not only do they not mind our chaos, they are there to help lessen our load. They meet our flaws, our fatigue, and our unfinished mess with grace, understanding, and love. Their only desire, when walking in our door, is to come alongside in order to help bear our burden – no scrutiny, no criticism – only grace and genuine love. I wonder how similar this can be to our own lives. What do those around us feel when they think of us or see us approaching? When we cross their mind, is their first thought one of tension and anxiety due to the expectations they fear we have of them, or do they think of us with a sense of comfort and joy, knowing that our heart’s desire is only to love them in an unconditional and gracious way – ready to help bear their burden if need be? Which will we choose to live out today? “Be kind and compassionate to one another... (Eph. 4:32) angie
