I’m proud of the inclusive, affirming and community-embracing measure the Minnesota State High School League board voted to approve yesterday that establishes sensible guidelines to allow transgender athletes to compete in high school athletics. Im especially proud of the brave young people who stepped forward, claimed their own power and spoke courage, conviction and dignity, facing down overt hostility and discrimination. Likewise, our loving community allies who stood with these young people are to be commended. This vote allows all our student athletes the opportunity to fully participate in their school and community and realize their potential—something we should strive to provide for all young people.
