I’m sure others have talked about this, but put yourself in the shoes of modern players. Especially foreign players. They hear about NUFCs interest, they think about the stadium (check) fan base (check) Alan Shearer played there (check) they think why not. They turn up with their entourage ready to do business and are met by a bloke that looks like an ancient hobbit called Joe. Joe says hello, cocks his name up, takes him inside to his new hut/office and gets down to business. Joe goes on charm offensive, tells the player he knows all about him (glancing down at Graham Carrs paperwork because he has no idea) but after 30 mins of meeting good old Joe the player is still unconvinced. The player then asks to meet Alan Pardew but Joe says no need, as he is in charge and really at the end of the day he – JFK – knows far more. He’s been there, done it and got the whole effin outfit. The player looks for hidden cameras, says he’ll be in touch and gets on first flight out to find another club.
