I’m sure your Easter Weekend will be busy. But if you have any free time Saturday, drop by your local mom and pop record shop and help celebrate the 7th annual Record Store Day. When it was launched back in 2008, records stores looked to be headed the way of the dinosaurs, thanks to streaming audio on cell phones and MP3 downloading. But record lovers are fighting back and hanging in there. Last year, as CD sales continued to slide, sales of limited edition vinyl pressings of new music rose 32 percent to over 6 million units. Tomorrow, 1200 record stores nationwide will host live bands and other special events, to help keep vinyl alive and try to introduce a generation of young earbud users to the joys of high fidelity music. A lot of people still swear that vinyl sounds better than CDs. And some of us still think our scratchy old 45s sound better than the stuff we hear on the Grammys these days.
