I’ve done a couple of mindset blogs recently, so it’s time to get back to training. I want to quickly go through a lift that I think is really important in building a strong, stable, athletic and useful body. The Military Press. For those that don’t know what it is: Stand with a barbell held in your hands at shoulder level. Push it up to straight arms with no help from the legs. Lock out the arms and lower it back down again. Why should you be doing it? -It requires phenomenal effort from your WHOLE BODY to keep solid while you’re pushing the weight above your head.= BETTER RESULTS -You’ll develop fantastic shoulder and arm strength =INSTANT WIN -Your core will get a great real world challenge and hence strength development.=LOOKS AND PERFORMS GREAT -It’ll make you ACTUALLY STRONG, not just look strong, ACTUAL STRONG. A body weight Military Press is a great aim for anyone who cares about lifting weights. But don’t start anywhere near that. It’s hard and slow progress but totally worth it. It might NOT BE FOR EVERYONE: -Individual shoulder anatomy can make this a big NO NO for some people. -If you have slumped or rounded shoulders you may need to sort this before you push heavy objects above your head. -Some people have shoulders that structurally will never allow you to do it. So if it hurts deep in your shoulders when you do it that may be you. If you have generally good posture and want to get truly strong I recommend you have a go at the Military Press.
