I’ve watched the whole Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays - TopicsExpress

I’ve watched the whole Merry Christmas vs. Happy Holidays controversy from afar for several years now, mostly because I think it is overblown and even somewhat insignificant. Now, before you start praying earnestly for my soul, let me say this: I am unapologetically and proudly a born again Evangelical Southern Baptist Christian. (Actually go ahead and pray for me - I can use all the prayers I can get). First of all, I don’t think Jesus would care how retail stores spell Christmas. As to the “X”-mas controversy, Jesus would know that, for thousands of years, His name has been abbreviated in this manner (and not just in Christmas). He would know that X is the first letter in the Greek word for “Christos” or Christ. As to “Happy Holidays,” I’m sure He also knows that the word “holidays” is derived from “Holy Days.” I’m certainly not offended when someone refers to the celebration of the birth of our Savior as a Holy Day, and I don’t believe Jesus would be either. As a matter of fact, there are many Holy Days that I choose to celebrate – Easter, the Passover, the Day of Pentecost… Christmas is about the celebration of light and life – the coming of our Savior. It’s about peace and forgiveness and harmony. Come to think of it, that’s what being a Christian is supposed to be about too. So how about we try that – celebrating and supporting the true reason for the season with love like a true Christian, and focus on the celebration of salvation. So, Merry Christmas to All, and Happy Holidays. Stepping off soap box now…
