J&K Assembly passes resolution seeking recommencement of dialogue with Pakistan =>After days of chaos in the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, the Legislative Council unanimously adopted the resolution on Thursday stating ‘The state government shall urge the central government to resume Indo-Pak dialogue process. ’Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Council had been adjourned on Wednesday after a pandemonium broke out over a resolution proposing to urge the Centre to resume dialogue with Pakistan. Now in a step to lead a confrontation with the Centre, the Jammu and Kashmir assembly, Thursday, has passed a resolution that urges the government of India to resume talks with Pakistan. The resolution passed unanimously by the Legislative Council via a voice vote says the state government must urge the union government to resume Indo-Pak dialogue to maintain peace inregion, especially in Jammu and Kashmir. The resolution also says the state government should urge the Centre to take steps to effectively resolve violations on LoC, besides taking steps to ensure rehabilitation of victims of LoC firing. Omar Abdullah governments move comes as a surprise as the constitution of Jammu and Kashmir clearly states that foreign affairs is not under the purview of the state government. The Narendra Modi government had cancelled foreign secretary level talks with Pakistan after Islamabad envoy inIndia, Abdul Basit held talks with Separatists despite New Delhis strong objections.
