J.R.R. Tolkien, writing in the second installment of his Lord of the Rings trilogy The Two Towers, observed that “the world is indeed full of peril, and in it there are many dark places; but still there is much that is fair, and though in all lands love is now mingled with grief, it grows perhaps the greater.” The world is indeed full of peril, and there are truly many dark places and dark forces that strive to leech out all that is bright and best. Even so, we are reminded that all is not lost. That there is always hope. That love triumphs over hate. And that truth and justice will win out over tyranny if only we stand strong and stand together.
