JACK PETCHEY ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS Earlier this year our club was accepted into the Jack Petchey Foundation Achievement Awards Scheme. The scheme rewards youngsters aged between 11 and 25 – and we have around 100 members in that age bracket. Candidates for these awards are nominated by their peers. The award isn’t necessarily just about sporting prowess - it can be someone who excels in a different area, or overcomes hardships or who has battled against the odds. I am delighted to announce that our first 2 award winners were – Kem Hassan – who was recognised for his tireless work at the club, including running the junior club session and making that a great success. The Panel received nominations praising Kem’s excellence as a coach and recognised his qualities as a role-model of good conduct and behaviour, on and off the court. Kem is currently exploring a number of options for how to spend his £200 award so it benefits lots of people. Oliver Weller – who was recognised for his work with our youngest members. The Panel was impressed with Oliver’s leadership qualities, and acceptance of responsibility at the club. The Panel heard of Oliver’s boundless energy and enthusiasm on court in leading mini red tennis sessions. Oliver has decided to spend his £200 award on some windbreakers for the MUGA as well as a new tennis net for that area. Congratulations to these 2 worthy winners. These photographs show Kem and Oliver receiving their awards in the presence of their peers at the club. The final award winner for 2014 will be decided in the autumn. We have a few nominations for that already but there are undoubtedly other deserving youngsters at the club. So please bear this in mind, and let me have your nominations for a young person (aged 11 -25) whom you think deserves this award. NIGEL JORDAN #oldwilsonians RAW Tennis
