JAMMU: VHP, while reiterating that Village Defense Committees (VDCs) have done a yeoman’s job in the militancy infested areas of Jammu region in protecting the lives and properties of innocent people, warned the Government against any move of disbanding them. The VHP will not allow the separatists to succeed in their game-plan of disbanding VDCs as they have done a commendable job in combating terrorism, its president Dr Rama Kant Dubey told reporters here, today. He said any such move will be resisted with full might by the patriotic people of the State and separatists designs will be frustrated in this regard. Dr Dubey, while expressing his concern over the Kishtwar situation said that riot hit people face problems there after no relaxation has been given in curfew for a week now. The people face the scarcity of ration and other eatables. The people do not get milk to feed their children, nor the medicines to treat the ailing, he added. He said the people face total starvation and were demanding that instead of making them hostages they be put in jails so that they can at least get food to eat. Terming the situation grave in Kishtwar, he said the minorities are scared and ready to migrate. He made an appeal to Union Home Secretary, Anil Goswami who is in city at present to visit Kishtwar and hear the woes of these hapless people. The VHP leader, while smelling a rat in the CCI-Government deal said that the victims of Kishtwar violence were not taken into confidence in signing the deal. He said no agreement is acceptable till the violence hit people are taken into confidence and the deal should be made as per their wishes. Criticizing the CCI, Dr Dubey said on whose behest Chamber gave 48 hour bandh call later when earlier it opposed the extension of bandh and why the same was withdrawn next day. Hem Raj Khajuria, Dr Sham Lal Gupta and Sukh Ram were other VHP leaders who were present in the press conference.
