JANUARY PRAYER GUIDE JANUARY 27 – John 5:10-15. ‘And so…’ Well here it comes – the firestorm. The religious spirit crowd. Forget that this guy is walking. It’s the mat they see. They observe all things through the rules. Their rules – or at least their interpretation of them. But they want answers. They want to get to the bottom of things. He broke the rules!! Interesting that this guy who had just been miraculously healed didn’t even bother to get Jesus’ name. He got the goods, he got a miracle – so off he goes!! I see this a lot in my role. People come when life for them is broken and sick. Hoping against hope for a miracle or another chance or some comfort. It comes. They’re gone. Amazes me every time – though it no longer surprises me. But over the years I’ve learned to, at least and from the outset, tell them that whatever good comes their way – Jesus is the source. So today why not spend time expressing some gratitude toward Jesus. I am sure there have been blessings in your life, as in mine, that we’ve received without recognition or appropriate thanks. Now read vss 14-15. Doesn’t tell us whether that statement so troubled, surprised or ‘ticked-off’ this guy that it prompted the man to ‘tattle’ on Jesus or whether he finally had a name and was simply being mindful to respond to what the Jewish leaders had asked. But Jesus’ words matter. Sin and its way holds in store a far more serious consequence than a less than optimally performing body for all those who continue in its hold and ways. I don’t know that we always are clear on this. But read those words – the words Jesus spoke and recorded for us - again. And consider them. Sin is serious. Its consequence and impact far exceeds any limitation, pain or distortion that we may experience or endure physically in this world. We need be very clear on this. Our calling and privilege and frightening responsibility is to offer the remedy for sin and its consequence. That is the good news. Pray about that today. Pray for the church – that they understand, appreciate and pour themselves out to that end.
