JC Smith, while I didnt ever have the privilege of meeting your grandmother, I felt like I had a good sense of the kind of person she was after listening to the people talking about her last night and at the service today. (Which by the way was beautiful. It reminded me of the churches I grew up in.) I would in no way inhibit your expression of the grief I know you feel, but I would like to share with you one of my favorite poems and the most beautiful setting of this text that I know. The poem is entitled Do Not Stand at My Grave and Weep and the text is this: Do not stand at my grave and weep. I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumn rain. When you awaken in the morning’s hush I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. And I think this recording does it justice. I hope you find some comfort in this. youtu.be/fJS9h09yGEY
