JESUS IS THE WAY When we are face-to-face with the reality of suffering, pain, and death, where can we find hope and consolation? To whom can we turn for light in our darkness? It is during these trying moments that we are invited to come to Jesus who is the WAY – the way to our loving Father in heaven. “You are my beloved Son. On you my favor rests.” (Mk. 1:11) Jesus offers us the way through our suffering, pan, and death: It is the way of the cross and there is no other. How is this? When Jesus walked on this earth, His whole life was a life of Love and Service (Amare et Servire). He cured the sick. He forgave the sinners. He fed the hungry… He served the least among the people. “There is no greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friend.” (Jn. 15:13) And yet, He was nailed on the cross where he was placed side by side with two thieves. On the cross, He did not just serve the outcasts, He became one of them. Because of this, we are sure that in every suffering we experience in life, He is our companion. The cross has revealed to us our God of compassion. Jesus Christ has shown us the love of God “who did not spare His own Son to save us.” It was through the mystery of the cross that we were saved from our sins. When we look at the cross, we are also reminded that everything is known to Him even which we dread the most – Death. But the way of the cross itself does not on the cross. It does not lead to a dead end. “On the third day He rose again.” The cross led to Christ’s resurrection. This is the basis of our Christian hope. This is an invitation for us to take up our own crosses in life “For if we have died with Him, then we shall live with Him; if we endure with Him, we shall reign with Him.” Yes, the Spirit of our Risen Lord is in our midst. He gives us the grace to overcome all fear – the fear of going through the darkest moments of our lives – because He has conquered sin and death. Our Risen Lord gives us the freedom to be who we are, for through Him and in Him we have become children of God, our Father. Turn to Jesus. He is the Way. Oh Jesus Master, teach us to bear our crosses with love and lead us to the path of life. Amen. Ref. Moments with God: A collection of prayer (by: Ma. Antonieta D. Molina, FSP)
