JG here. One of the items missed in most studies, well, really virtually all English language accounts, is that the Germans used their battle squadrons (up to 8 ships) much more as independent units. The usually three battle sqds had much more freedom of movement than the Brits under Jellicoe. Here is Scheers orders for the conduct of the IInd Bat.
