JKEDI organizes awareness cum loan mela JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 05-Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI) organized one-day entrepreneurship awareness cum loan mela here on Thursday. The event was sponsored by National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation (NMDFC), an undertaking of Ministry of Minority Affairs, Government of India. Divisional commissioner, Jammu, Shantmanu was the chief guest on this occasion. The event was also attended by various youth leaders, sarpanchs and people from different minority groups including Christians, Sikhs and Muslims. Divisional Commissioner while addressing the gathering stressed on the need of improving manufacturing and agriculture sector by availing such schemes. “Small units in agriculture and manufacturing sectors which in turn employ 5 to 10 people can contribute a lot in the state’s economy. Some trades are specific and feasible to certain regions and these should be promoted, he added. These will also help in developing the concerned area”, said Divisional Commissioner. “Now the ambit of incentives for thrust industries has been increased. Such industries can avail these incentives even if they are not located in industrial estates. New entrepreneurs can be role models for the society and can provide inspiration to upcoming entrepreneurs,” he further added. There was an exhaustive question answer session later in the day. People from different sections of the society raised questions regarding the schemes which were answered by the senior officers of JKEDI. ”With the announcing of schemes such as SKEWPY and NMDFC, it is expected that a lot of investment will flow in the state which will generate employment and development in the state” said Majid Manzoor Khan, Communication Officer, Jammu province. District officer, Jammu, M. Nauman gave a presentation highlighting various important aspects of schemes undertaken by JKEDI. He said that National Minorities Development and Finance Corporation offer soft loans to minorities on 6 percent simple interest while under seed capital 35 percent of the total project cost is provided as seed money. A new scheme has been recently introduced known as youth start up scheme, which gives soft loans at 6 percent simple interest, he added.
