JOB OPENING - East Hampton, CT Public Works - Maintainer II The Town of East Hampton is seeking applications for the position of a Maintainer II for the Public Works Department. This is a full time position with benefits. $18.82 per hour; 40 hours per week, plus OT when required. Snow plowing experience preferred. CDL required. Interested candidates may submit a cover letter, resume and an employment application by November 17, 2014, to: Town of East Hampton Department of Human Resources 20 East High Street East Hampton, CT 06424 Job Description Public Works Maintainer II General statement of duties: Performs a wide variety of labor tasks often involving the use of acquired skills; does related work as required by Supervisor. Distinguishing features of the class: This work involves the use of some skills acquired by experience or on the job instruction. The employee in this class may act as a lead man for a small work crew carrying out work projects of routine nature or may be assigned as a heavy truck driver. General supervision is received from a Public Works Foreman who issues instructions and inspects work frequently. Positions in this class can be distinguished from the Public Works Maintainer I Class by the more difficult work assignments requiring application of skills. Examples of work: (Illustrative only): -Drives truck and crew to job site -Operates compressor and pneumatic tools in breaking pavement or surface and tamping backfill; -Digs trenches, lays pipe and maneuvers pipe sections and fittings into place using power and hand tools; -Uses rodding machine in cleaning or unclogging sewer mains; - Assist in setting fire hydrants and making connections; -Operate heavy truck in hauling gravel, sand, fill and asphalt to job site; -Cleans catch basins and removes brush and debris; -Performs custodial maintenance and semiskilled tasks in the repair and maintenance of park and recreation facilities including painting facilities and planting trees, grass and shrubbery; -Services and makes minor repairs to equipment; -Checks oil level, water, battery, tires, lights and antifreeze at regular intervals; - Washes and cleans equipment; - Assists, on occasion, mechanics in greasing and changing oil’ -When not working as a Maintainer II, works as a Maintainer I as assigned; -May be required to operate loader or backhoe or other equipment as assigned to increase job skills for advancement; Required knowledge’s, skills and abilities: Some knowledge of a variety of semiskilled maintenance and manual tasks. Ability to operate and use a variety of tools, including pneumatic tools. Ability to operate light motor and mechanized equipment usual to public works maintenance and construction projects. Ability to follow oral instructions. Dependability. Excellent physical condition. Acceptable experience and training: Some experience at the level of Public Works Maintainer I or in public works maintenance and construction and completion of a standard grade school course, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. Additional requirements: Must maintain possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license issued by the State of Connecticut. Physical requirements: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by and employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Physical strength to lift and manipulate a wide variety of parts and the stamina to work long hours under adverse weather conditions are required. Other demands include climbing repetitively, walking and standing over rough/steep terrain, shimmying down banks, removing branches/tree limbs, twisting, turning and bending, shoveling and ability to lift or move up to 25 pounds.
