Salary range: $50,000-$60,000 USD based on qualifications and skills. The Social Progress Imperative is an equal opportunity employer. SOCIAL PROGRESS IMPERATIVE Communications Officer Do you want to change the world by putting people and planet at the center of how ‘development’ is pursued? We do. We are the Social Progress Imperative, a Washington, DC-based nonprofit that is providing actionable information to government, business and civil society on how to make sure that development means not just economic growth but better lives for millions of people. WHO WE ARE The Social Progress Imperative’s mission is to improve the quality of lives of people around the world, particularly the least well off, by advancing global social progress. Social progress is defined as the capacity of a society to meet the basic human needs of its citizens, establish the building blocks that allow citizens and communities to enhance and sustain the quality of their lives, and create the conditions for all individuals to reach their full potential. In April 2014 we launched the second Social Progress Index, an assessment of the social and environmental performance of 132 countries designed by Professor Michael E. Porter of Harvard Business School. The Index provides a robust, holistic and innovative measurement tool to guide countries’ choices to enable greater social progress and foster research and knowledge-sharing on the policies and investments that will best achieve that goal. You can read all about it in The New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Fast Company, Forbes, Voice of America or The Guardian, or listen to Professor Porter talk about it on CNN. We are now building a global social progress network, working with leaders and grassroots champions to identify the policies, programs and initiatives that will improve the lives of citizens. We are also rolling out customized social progress indices in regions, states, and cities around the world. We are a small team of nine people, centered in Washington DC but with half the team working remotely. With the generous support of our sponsors including Cisco, Compartamos Banco, Deloitte, Fundacion Avina, Rockefeller Foundation, and Skoll Foundation, we are looking for a full-time Communications Officer to strengthen our Communications team based in DC.
